An In-Depth Overview of HIPAA Privacy & Security for the Insurance Professional
This course provides insurance professionals with an in-depth look at the requirements for providing compliance for HIPAA Privacy & Security laws and regulations for employers who sponsor health plans, and their Business Associates, as well as related laws and applications that apply to employers and health industry professionals that protect electronic data. The instructor will discuss the laws that apply, and how they can be managed for insurance industry personnel. We’ll provide an overview of real-world steps that can be taken to ensure compliance. We will discuss physical, administrative and technical security, including risk assessments, HITECH and electronic security and cybersecurity. Students will be required to watch the entire video and take a written exam. This course has been pre-approved by the California Department of Insurance for 3 hours of Life/Accident/Health CE credit. Course Number 386276. You will receive a certificate of completion with the CE course number after you complete the course and successfully pass the test with a 70% or greater score. This course will provide information on providing the basics of health plan compliance, and provide the health insurance professional with a baseline understanding of their responsibilities and requirements related to employer sponsored health plans. We will cover ERISA, ERISA disclosure requirements, ERISA reporting requirements, fiduciary roles, IRS & ACA compliance, Cafeteria Plans, and HIPAA Privacy & Security. The instructor(s) will discuss the laws that apply, and how they can be managed in the employment setting, while working at home, as well as an overview of real-world steps that can be taken to ensure compliance. This course has been pre-approved by the California Department of Insurance for 1 hour of Property and Casualty CE credit. Course Number 386340. You will receive a certificate of completion with the CE course number after you complete the course and successfully pass the test with a 70% or greater score. You will have 90 minutes to complete the exam (10 questions with 7 correct answers). You will be given 2 additional opportunities to pass the test if needed. CE credit will be submitted to the CA Department of Insurance upon completion by Advanced Benefit Consulting, the CE provider. Video run time 56 minutes. Course contains 58 slides and 3591 words. Students have 60 days to complete the course from the time of enrollment / purchase. After expiration students can no longer access the course.
How to Successfully Complete a Course
Courses are provided in Video format. Additional course materials are available for download as PDF, Microsoft Word or other formats as appropriate. Downloaded files are yours to keep.
Video
The complete video must be viewed in it’s entirety to proceed to the next Lesson or Test.
Students are discouraged from opening additional windows on their computers while watching the course. This will cause the video to pause play. Play will only resume when students navigate back to the lesson page where the video player is. If a student logs out and clears browser history / cache / cookies, the video may restart from the beginning.
Tests
All tests require 70% correct answers to pass. Students may retake a test 2 additional times to pass. Questions are selected randomly from a larger set of questions. Tests must be completed within a total of 90 minutes.
Certificate
Upon successful Final Test completion, a Certificate of Completion will be displayed and students may download a PDF copy for printing or for their files.
Course Completion Time
Students have 60 days from the time of purchase / enrollment in a course to complete the Lessons and final Test. After 60 days any activity will be lost and students must enroll and repeat all steps in a course. Allow 14 days for CE data to be submitted to the California Department of Insurance.
