Anthony McCarren has spent over 25 years in employee benefits, including seven in the third party administration field. He began with a position as a marketing assistant for MSK Insurance Administration in 1989, a TPA specializing in self-insured health plans, and was quickly promoted to COBRA administration and billings and eligibility coordinator. After the sale of MSK in 1991, Anthony moved to Admar Corporation, a national third party administration and managed care firm. He began as a sales assistant, responsible for self-funded and fully-insured quoting, and later was promoted to technical services coordinator, responsible for summary plan description and amendment filing, 5500 preparation, self-funded reporting, and fully insured health preliminary underwriting. He was next promoted to inside sales representative.
In 1993, Anthony was recruited by Word & Brown Insurance Administration, a health plan general agency and third party administrator, as a self-funded renewal sales and service representative. He was later promoted to Self-Funded Account Manager, and later, as Self-Funded Manager. He was responsible for quoting, new case installation, individual and group employee meetings, renewal and compliance areas, as well as managed care coordination, claims auditing, self-funded late entrant underwriting, and client reporting.
In 1997, Anthony was recruited by Advanced Benefit Consulting, as Director of Client Services. He is responsible for all client service functions, including account management functions, client reporting, 5500 preparation, amendment and SPD filing, CMS filing, client troubleshooting, open enrollment and new case installation, renewal preparation, cafeteria plan administration, employee individual and group meetings. Anthony manages the day-to-day service functions of fully insured, HMO, PPO and ancillary products, as well as self- insured health plans.
Anthony was promoted to Vice President, Client Services in 2001 and became a shareholder in 2004. He now manages the day-to-day service functions and service staff at Advanced Benefit Consulting. He is also our primary quote specialist. In addition, Anthony supervises all Applicable Large Employer (ALE) ACA reporting for those groups using our Ease Central ACA reporting and tracking software, as well as Online Enrollment. He also coordinates all ACA PCORI fee payments for IRS Form 720 for our self-funded groups.
Anthony served on the Orange County Association of Health Underwriters Board of Directors from 1994 to 1998 as the Vice President of Communications, responsible for editing, advertising and layout for the award winning “County of Insurance News (COIN),” the association’s monthly newsletter. He served two terms as the Vice President, Communications for the California Association of Health Underwriters, responsible for editing, advertising and layout of the bi-monthly magazine, The Statement, as well as overseeing the CAHU website. In addition, Anthony served as the CAHU Convention Exhibitor Chair in 1998 and 1999. He is currently a member of the Orange County Association of Health Underwriters, California Association of Health Underwriters, and National Association of Health Underwriters.
